Fireplaces make us think of snow

http://www.core77.com/

"Here's what you want to do: You want to go away and stay in some cozy little New England bed & breakfast where it's freezing outside but you're sitting in front of a fireplace, listening to the logs crackle while your stocks continue to lose value and the price of your real home falls faster than the snow outside. Everyone likes a fireplace; they're warm and soothing.

So we're not sure how we feel about Radius Design's indoor fireplace, pictured above, that runs on ethanol. Yes it's sleek and nifty, but there's something cold and off about it--this looks like something you'd install in your house in Los Angeles, but during a party some jerk named Lorenzo would come over and you'd find him and his model buddies doing cocaine off of this thing."

The question with this version of a fireplace is to focus on what we are using to judge it. In terms of design, this version of a fireplace is constructed in a sleek an tech savvy fashion.

However, if we're talking in terms of effectiveness... I seriously doubt that this version of a fireplace would provide much warmth, rather it's purpose is more of a decorative one almost like an expensive painting or chandelier.
